Nature is Amazing!
Screenshots
2019
Nature is Amazing! is a selection of screenshots taken from my family group text. At one moment, it is simply an installation of six iPhones on the wall, and at another, it shows how digital technologies can alleviate a longing for connection. The six screenshots are each individually displayed on iPhone 8s, recontextualizing an object that is so familiar it is almost overlooked. The work suggests that perhaps the best use of your mobile phone is to be nailed to an empty white wall and set to display a single meaningful text message until its processor gives out in a few years. Displayed as objects of desire within a gallery context, the screenshots appear preciously selected. It is this preciousness that reveals what might be hidden in your own life. Reveling in the mundane, Nature is Amazing! subverts capital authority to reclaim the possibility of poetry that lingers in every text message. This work was featured in It's Nice Out Here, a pavilion of The Wrong Digital Art Biennale.
